CEI Summer Internship

Are you passionate about coastal resilience, policy, and community engagement?

Join the National Sea Grant Community Engaged Internship (CEI) program and work on a project that explores how local governments are building resilience and adapting to environmental change through resilience and adaptation plans.

About the Project

Local governments are on the front lines of coastal change, yet they often lack guidance, resources, and capacity to implement ambitious action plans. This project will analyze resilience and adaptation plans across coastal California, Oregon, and Washington to identify best practices and develop tools for local planning. The project involves conducting a systematic review of these plans and contribute to a toolkit that will assist communities in strengthening their resilience strategies.

Timeline:                         6/2/2025 – 8/8/2025

Funding:                          $6,000, 40 hours per week for 10 weeks

Deadline:                        March 15, 2025

Eligibility and Required Qualifications

As an intern, you will:

  • Collect and analyze resilience and adaptation plans from coastal communities in CA, OR, and WA

  • Identify key adaptation strategies and gaps in local policies

  • Contribute to the development of a Community Engagement Toolkit that will help inform future action planning

  • Engage with community partners throughout the project

  • Support the creation of reports, policy briefs, and public-facing materials

Desired Qualifications

  • All students with a strong interest in resilience, policy, and community-driven solutions are encouraged to apply

  • No prior research experience required but is an asset. You will receive hands-on training and guidance throughout the project
